International Accomplishments

  • In 2002 a major US defense company gained a large contract to build a major weapons system for the US Armed Forces. Successful completion of this program will require the involvement of a significant number of foreign defense firms, raising the question of obtaining US government approvals of the sharing of advanced defense technologies with foreign corporations, always a difficult, time consuming and expensive requirement. With Collins & Company’s expert assistance, the US company designed and gained US government approval of a new type of comprehensive export approval for this specific program that significantly reduced licensing timelines for this vital program.

  • In 2001 a small US company faced a licensing requirement for the export of its defense-related product that threatened the commercial viability of its program. The company engaged Collins & Company to develop and implement a strategy aimed at gaining the agreement of US export control authorities that this product poses no threat of proliferation and should not require an export license. After an intensive educational campaign, Collins & Company was successful in obtaining the desired outcome, enabling the US company to maintain the viability of one of its core products.

  • A small developing nation recently wished to negotiate a trade agreement with the United States that could offer opportunities for greatly increased trade and investment, leading to economic growth and reduction of poverty. The nation’s local embassy approached Collins & Company for assistance in devising a negotiating strategy for pursuing the trade agreement, for expertise in structuring its trade proposals and in responding to US proposals, and for help in building political and media support for the agreement. With Collins & Company’s expert help, this small country with few diplomatic assets was able to conclude a favorable trade agreement with the US that promises to be a major stimulant to growth and modernization.
